"The Northern Angler" Fishing Adventure
(2-7 days)

Fishing in Canada's Yukon     Spirit of the North痴 fishing packages are designed to meet the needs of each individual angler. Packages range from 2 to 7+ days in length, priced on a per person per day basis.

Upon advising us on the length of your proposed package, the experience you are seeking and the species of fish you are after, we will consult with you to assess your angling preferences and expectations. Then we will provide you with your own custom designed fishing package, complete with itinerary.

The majority of our fishing trips depart from our home base here "On the Marge of Lake Laberge." Accommodations are here at the lake. The main species we fish for are Lake trout, Northern pike, Arctic grayling, Whitefish and Inconnu. The great advantage of our location is that Laberge is part of the Yukon River System. We therefore can offer you a huge variety of fishing experiences.

A Yukon fishing adventure.     Lake Laberge is 30 miles in length and over 5 miles across. It is home to trophy size Lake trout and Northern pike. At the north end of the lake lies the Thirty Mile River - a crystal clear angler's paradise, with the finest Arctic graying fishing in the North. Further down this river lie some incredibly productive pike holes.

This is probably not the fishing you're used to - this is pristine wilderness fishing with no other boats around. The simple equation that goes with that fact is: low fishing pressure = great fishing! Click here to read what some of our clients have said about their trips with us (some great photos, too!), and here for a lengthy story about a trip with us, posted on the ExploreNorth Web site.

On a typical trip, we will start by trolling our way north along the lakeshore for trophy trout and pike. Gibbs Stewart Spoons in a variety of colours are very consistent producers with just a couple of ounces of weight. Only late in the year will we need our downriggers. In shallow bays, casting from the boat or shore is just the ticket for those big pike. Especially towards evening, a trip out in the canoe from our first camp will produce some heart-pounding non-stop action for these voracious fish.

All of our campsites are chosen for their good fishing - while your guide is cooking you a gourmet meal, you will be close by reeling in fish. The action is never far away!

Gourmet meals in the wilderness!     Spinners, poppers and buzz-baits all work well on these northern giants. Green to yellow are the favoured colours.

Day 2 (depending on trip length) will often find us entering the Thirty Mile River at the north end of the Lake. We値l take a short break here to explore the wreck of the paddlewheeler Casca on the beach. Here also is the abandoned goldrush village of Lower Laberge. We値l stretch our legs and investigate the cabins and old Telegraph Station that amazingly is still standing. Back on the Thirty Mile, we値l drift with the current - looking down into the emerald green water, we can see the grayling swimming 10 feet below our boat. Casting with small spinners or fly fishing off the bow is very producuctive with these sporty and beautiful, uniquely Northern fish.

John McNiven with an Arctic grayling     Our next camp will be beside this beautiful northern river. After a hearty dinner we値l relax by the fire, recounting our adventures of the day. We値l drop off to sleep listening to the sounds of the river as it glides softly by.

Further downriver on Day 3, we値l find some quiet backwaters full of huge Northern pike. Our adventure will continue as long as you'd like it to. The area we fish is huge - even a 7-day trip barely scratches the surface of the fishing available.

I look forward to meeting you and to giving you the most memorable fishing adventure of your lifetime.
